Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Says Prisoner Exchange with the U.S. May Happen Soon
Iran and the United States may soon exchange prisoners if Washington shows goodwill, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Monday, a day after Iran's Supreme Leader announced the possibility of reaching a nuclear agreement with the West. This was reported by Reuters.
"Negotiations regarding a prisoner exchange with America are ongoing through mediators. If the other side displays the same seriousness and goodwill, this could happen in the near future," Kanaani stated at a weekly press conference.
Among several Americans held in Iran is dual national businessman Siamak Namazi, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 on charges of espionage and collaboration with the U.S. government.
