What Was Discussed in the 4-Hour Trilateral Meeting: Charles Michel Provides Details
The trilateral meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Charles Michel, and President Ilham Aliyev focused on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This was stated by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in a press conference following the meeting.
“The leaders of the two countries expressed their desire to resolve the situation in the region. We discussed the delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as other agenda items,” Michel said.
“The leaders reaffirmed their unequivocal commitment to the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and to respect the territories of Armenia, which is 29,800 square kilometers, and Azerbaijan, which is 86,600 square kilometers,” he added.
According to him, there has been progress in the negotiations. The European Council President highlighted that the EU has only one goal: to assist the parties in reaching peace. “To this end, we have agreed to hold another meeting in Brussels in July, while another meeting is planned in Chisinau with the participation of the President of France and the Chancellor of Germany,” he stated.
“Our exchange of views has been sincere and open. We have discussed all agenda issues together. It is essential to maintain the momentum so that decisive steps are taken toward the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Charles Michel emphasized.
