European Parliament Member Condemns Azerbaijan's Actions Threatening Peace Process
The meeting with Marina Kaljurand, the head of the delegation for relations with the South Caucasus, was characterized by a warm and intimate conversation, as noted on her Facebook page by Taguhi Tovmasyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly's Permanent Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs.
"I presented the threats continuously looming over peace-seeking Armenia. I emphasized that Armenia's sovereign territory has been shrinking since the 2020 Artsakh war, yet the international community only makes statements of concern that do not provide assistance to our homeland and citizens. I highlighted that Artsakh has been completely blockaded for 138 days, and despite the International Court of Justice's ruling regarding the Lachin corridor, the road remains closed," Tovmasyan wrote.
Ms. Marina Kaljurand condemned Azerbaijan's actions, which are jeopardizing the peace process. She and her colleagues issued a statement regarding the Lachin corridor, calling on Baku to commit to a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and to respect international obligations and norms.
I spoke about the escalation of the security situation in Armenia and its ramifications, mentioning, among other things, the gunfire from Azerbaijanis in the Sotk direction, which has led to 800 Sotk employees being forced into an involuntary downtime for over a week. We touched upon all crucial topics, for which our parliamentary human rights protection committee team regularly prepares reports and sends them to all international partners," Tovmasyan added.
