Armenia Votes in Favor of UN Security Council Resolution

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on April 27 concerning the cooperation between the UN and the Council of Europe. Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsya, announced on Twitter that Russia sought to remove references to its aggression against Ukraine from the resolution regarding cooperation with the Council of Europe. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, and only Russia, Belarus, Nicaragua, Syria, and North Korea voted against the resolution. A total of 122 member states of the General Assembly, including Armenia, voted in favor of the resolution.

The section of the resolution that assesses Russia's actions is formulated as follows: “Acknowledging also the unprecedented challenges Europe faces due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and before that, against Georgia, as well as the suspension of Russia's membership in the Council of Europe, we call for strengthening cooperation between the UN and the Council of Europe aimed at the rapid restoration and maintenance of peace and security based on the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of each state, ensuring the protection of human rights and international humanitarian law during military operations, providing compensation to victims, and holding accountable all those responsible for violations of international law.”
