Explosion Strikes Just Before Japanese Prime Minister's Speech
An explosion occurred just before Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's speech in Yokohama. According to NHK, the politician was unharmed and was evacuated from the scene.
The incident took place around 11:30 AM local time. The explosion happened as Kishida had just completed an inspection at the Saigasaki fishing port in Yokohama and was preparing to deliver his speech. Following the incident, the Prime Minister canceled the appearance.
Reports indicate that an object resembling a signal rocket was thrown in the direction of Kishida. A man was arrested at the scene. Later, it was revealed that he is 24-year-old Ryuji Kimura, a resident of Hyogo Prefecture.
During the arrest, police discovered a cylindrical object believed to be an explosive device. Kimura has not commented on the incident and remained silent during his interrogation.
