Journalist from Wall Street Journal Arrested in the Act
Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, speaking about the arrest of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, stated that the WSJ journalist was caught in the act of committing a crime.
“This falls under the jurisdiction of the FSB. There has already been a statement from the Federal Security Service, and we have nothing more to add,” Peskov said in response to a question about whether Moscow would cooperate with American intelligence agencies in this case. Peskov emphasized that he does not have details about the case.
“I do not have details. Once again, I reiterate that this is the jurisdiction of the special services, which are specifically fighting against spies,” Peskov added when asked to clarify what it means to be caught in the act when the person is accused of espionage.
According to the FSB, Gershkovich was gathering information regarding the activities of one of the Russian defense industry enterprises on behalf of the U.S. He was arrested in Yekaterinburg while attempting to obtain secret information.
