GRECO Positively Assesses Armenia's Achievements in Corruption Prevention
The Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO) of the Council of Europe has conducted another assessment of corruption prevention among judges, parliamentarians, and prosecutors in Armenia (the country has been undergoing this evaluation since 2015). This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
Since 2019, due to the low level of implementation of GRECO's recommendations, Armenia's performance had been rated as "generally unsatisfactory" (with 11 out of 18 overall recommendations remaining unfulfilled).
Following substantial anti-corruption and judicial reforms implemented in 2022, as well as additional discussions with Armenia's permanent delegation during GRECO's 93rd Plenary Session held in Strasbourg from March 20 to 24 this year, two more recommendations have been assessed as implemented.
As a result, Armenia has finally exited the compliance process of GRECO's assessment and is no longer considered a country with "generally unsatisfactory" performance.
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia will continue to ensure the sustainability of the fight against corruption by striving to fully implement GRECO's recommendations.
It is noteworthy that the Group of States Against Corruption was established to monitor compliance with anti-corruption standards among Council of Europe member states and has been operating since 1999. Armenia has been a member of GRECO since 2004 and is periodically subjected to assessment regarding the implementation of GRECO's recommendations.
