Pentagon Responds to Putin's Statement
The Pentagon has responded to Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements regarding the plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. The United States sees no reason to change the readiness level of its nuclear forces.
“We are aware of the statements regarding Russia’s announcement and will continue to monitor the situation,” the Pentagon's statement, quoted by Reuters, reads.
“We see no reason to change the readiness of our nuclear forces, nor are there any signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons,” the agency added.
The press service of the U.S. Department of Defense emphasized that Washington remains committed to the collective defense of the NATO alliance.
