Will Vladimir Putin Be Arrested in Armenia? Constitutional Expert Responds
The Constitutional Court today announced the decision regarding the compliance of the obligations enshrined in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, signed in 1998, with the Constitution of Armenia.
Constitutional Court President Arman Dilyan stated that the decision is final and takes effect from the moment of publication. Judges Tunyan, Khundkaryan, and Tovmasyan have expressed special opinions regarding the decision.
It is noteworthy that by ratifying this agreement, Armenia will be obligated to implement the decisions of the International Criminal Court, including the recent decision concerning the arrest of Vladimir Putin.
Auroranews spoke with constitutional expert Edgar Ghazaryan about the decision: “International treaties go through a ratification process, which means this document has not yet been ratified in Armenia. After the Constitutional Court's decision, it still needs to be ratified by the National Assembly, after which the President of Armenia must sign and publish it. If this process occurs, it means Armenia recognizes the jurisdiction of the international criminal court, and this signifies that the court's ruling should be subject to mandatory execution in Armenia, including the implementation of the order for the arrest of the Russian president,” noted the constitutional expert.
Earlier, we reported that the Rome Statute is in accordance with the Constitution of Armenia, as per the Constitutional Court.
