There Would Be No War If Not for the 1988 Sumgait and 1990 Baku Massacres: No Armenian Would Want to Live in Such Azerbaijan, Says President
No Armenian would ever want to live in such Azerbaijan, and Baku knows this well. This was stated by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in an interview with the Italian newspaper "la Repubblica." This information was reported by the press service of the President's office.
The President noted that the situation is the same today as it was 30 years ago, with the survival of the Armenian people at risk.
“There would be no war if not for the Sumgait and Baku massacres organized by the Soviet Azerbaijani authorities in 1988 and 1990. As a result, there are no Armenians living in either Sumgait or Baku today,” said Khachaturyan.
According to him, Azerbaijan continues to pursue the same policy today, aiming to ethnically cleanse Nagorno-Karabakh.
Official Baku claims that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh no longer exists for them, as it was resolved in the 44-day war of 2020.
Baku insists that they should live according to Azerbaijani legislation, or they should leave. They know well that no Armenian would ever want to live in such Azerbaijan, where human rights are violated, democratic values do not function, and as Armenians, they are constantly under threat,” emphasized the Armenian President.
He stressed that despite Armenia's willingness to sign a peace agreement and recognize territorial integrity mutually, Azerbaijan continues to maintain an aggressive stance.
