Contradictory Statements from Deputy and Security Council Secretary: ‘Haykakan Jamanak’

‘Haykakan Jamanak’ newspaper reports that the Chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Security and Defense, Andranik Kocharyan, states that he cannot say that Russia has directly forced Armenia to become part of a union state. This comment comes in response to the statement by the Chairman of the National Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, who claimed that Russia is directly compelling Armenia to be part of a union state.

Furthermore, according to Grigoryan, both the aggression of September 13 and the current blockade of Artsakh fall within the framework of this coercion.

Although the Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Security and Defense notes that there may be visible desires within Russia's broader goals (to make Armenia a part of a union state), he does not confirm Grigoryan's assertion that official Moscow is applying pressure.

This raises the question: are representatives from different echelons of power not only in disagreement but also unaware of the foreign policy direction of the country they govern? This illustrates a lack of awareness from one another or, even worse, a tendency to ‘deny’ each other.
