France Rejects Armenia's Extradition Request for Surik Khachatryan

France has rejected Armenia's extradition request for the former governor of Syunik, Surik Khachatryan. A response from the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office to a query from ‘Azatutyun’ has revealed that Yerevan received the rejection from Paris about a month ago.

The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has responded through Armenia’s foreign office, stating that five months ago, the judicial authorities expressed a negative opinion regarding the request for Khachatryan's extradition. The basis for this decision was the European Convention on Extradition, which states that “the extradition of Khachatryan may have exceptionally serious consequences for him.”

However, the Armenian Prosecutor's Office did not specify what serious consequences are referred to in the conclusions of the French judicial authorities.
