“Why can’t we split the bread in two and put meat and thousand inside, my God?” This is how Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko commented on the withdrawal of American McDonald's from Belarus.

The president addressed the attendees, stating that the place of McDonald's in Belarus should be occupied by Belarusians. “I always urge you—eat, drink yours, don’t rush abroad. This rings true today as some, especially the youth, and possibly middle-aged, or perhaps even older ones, have begun to choke saying, ‘Oh, McDonald's is leaving. I think, thank God, at least it’s leaving. But the place of McDonald's, where our people work, where our specialists are, where our goods are consumed, should be occupied by Belarusians,” Lukashenko said during a ceremonial event honoring leaders of the agro-industrial complex.
