23-Year-Old Wife of Fallen Lieutenant Commits Suicide: Had Attempted Before on Husband's Funeral Day

In the village of Artsvani, located in the Gegharkunik province, the funeral of Lieutenant Armen Karapetyan, who was killed during the enemy's recent large-scale attack on September 13, was held yesterday. He is survived by his wife, Lilit, whom he married earlier this year in January.

Rubik Sirakanyan, the head of the Artsvani administrative district, told Aravot.am that Armen, who was on vacation, received a call late at night on September 13 informing him of a crisis. Without hesitation, he quickly made his way to the Sotk military unit where he served but was tragically killed by a drone strike before even entering the base.

Lilit Harutyunyan, 23, worked at the village school as a teacher and never fully recovered from the news of her husband's death. On the day of Armen's funeral, Lilit attempted suicide for the first time by taking a large number of pills, but her life was saved that time.

“She took such a step for the sake of great love and devotion. Armen was an exceptionally conscientious and devoted man, and his wife was the same. Today is also the engagement anniversary of Armen and Lilit,” said Sirakanyan.

“At five in the morning, her mother noticed the bathroom light was on when going to the barn, which raised suspicions. She woke Lilit's husband, and they found that she had committed suicide by hanging in the bathroom. The whole village is in shock,” he added.
