John Kirby Comments on Biden's Statement Regarding Nuclear Threat
US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated in an interview with ABC News that President Joe Biden's earlier warning about the highest risk of 'Armageddon' since the Cuban missile crisis reflects the elevated stakes of war, rather than new intelligence information received by the US.
“For the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, we are witnessing a direct nuclear threat if everything goes as it is,” Biden said.
“Biden's comments are not based on new intelligence indications that Putin has made a decision to use nuclear weapons, and frankly, we have no indication that he has made such a decision,” Kirby added.
“The president was thinking that the stakes are high now given what is happening on the battlefield in Ukraine, and the very irresponsible and reckless comments that Vladimir Putin has made in recent days,” the National Security Council spokesperson noted.
