“He is a fighter”: The President of Finland on Putin
The President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, stated in an interview with CNN that he does not see a great opportunity for peace in Ukraine, but supports maintaining dialogue with Russia.
“I must admit that at this moment, I do not see a great opportunity for peace. I am a man of peace and believe that any effort to seek peace is important. That is why I firmly support French President Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in keeping the lines of discussion open with the Kremlin,” he said.
According to the Finnish president, the situation is complicated, as Russian President Vladimir Putin is “unlikely to accept defeat in Ukraine.”
“He is a fighter. Therefore, it is very difficult to imagine that he can accept any form of defeat in Ukraine. It is clear that this makes the situation extremely critical,” emphasized Sauli Niinistö.
