Presidents of Russia and Turkey Discuss Progress of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Construction
Russia and Turkey will continue the construction of the first Turkish nuclear power plant, Akkuyu. This was reported by the office of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries, according to Kommersant.
“President Erdoğan and Russian President Putin confirmed their determination to implement the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in accordance with the plan,” stated a message from the Turkish president's office.
It was also reported that the Turkish president offered to mediate in the resolution of the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
It should be noted that the first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, in Turkey is expected to start operating in 2023. Earlier, it was reported that Russia would invest a total of $22 billion in the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
