A University Diploma Does Not Always Mean Higher Education, Says Pashinyan

Today, tens of thousands of children in Armenia are deprived of the opportunity to receive quality education in appropriate kindergartens, pre-schools, and schools. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned this during a government meeting.

“Institutions in the field of vocational education and training are not always accessible to learners and do not always provide appropriate professional qualifications. As a result, on one hand, we have unemployment, and on the other hand, claims about the absence of skilled labor in the country are increasingly being voiced,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, there are no proper university standards in our country. “Many universities are simply in a state of decline; a university diploma does not always mean higher education. Consequently, we are increasingly hearing puzzled complaints that people with sometimes two diplomas cannot find work and are condemned to poverty. This situation is no longer tolerable, as it jeopardizes our future and is a ticking time bomb beneath us. Therefore, we are implementing extensive reforms in the education sector,” Pashinyan noted.
