The Next Main Target Will Be the So-Called 'Zangezur Corridor', Abrahamyan Says
One of Azerbaijan's main issues is the demilitarization of Artsakh. This pertains not only to the withdrawal of military personnel registered in Armenia from Artsakh but also to the disarmament of the militarized structures in Artsakh in general. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the 'I Have Honor' faction in the National Assembly, in an interview with NEWS.am.
“Secondly, this concerns the corridor connecting Armenia to Artsakh, as it is becoming increasingly clear that Azerbaijan is not only changing its routes but is essentially transforming the corridor into a road, which will result in significant security vulnerabilities for those traveling along this route. Another issue pertains to the transfer of Berdzor, Sus, and Agavno villages. This is of great importance to Azerbaijan, and they are trying to ensure Aliyev's military-political victory at this stage. Finally, groundwork is being prepared to increase pressure towards the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor', which again promises to create a tense situation,” he said.
The opposition MP lamented that Azerbaijan, with Turkey's active support since 2018 and after the 44-day war in 2020, is performing quite calculated actions and gradually limiting Armenia's ability to exhibit any flexibility.
Regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that Azerbaijan can currently transit through Armenian territory to Nakhichevan according to the regulations established by Armenian law, Tigran Abrahamyan noted, “It is evident that after overcoming the ongoing processes, the next main target will be the so-called Zangezur Corridor.” In this case, the Armenian authorities are trying to present a situation emerging from the perspective of regional unblocking, which implies the opening of all types of communications. The Prime Minister's hints were related to the possibilities of using this road, rather than granting the corridor.”
