Kosovo Authorities Delay Conflict Escalation with Serbia
Kosovo's authorities have postponed the procedure for imposing a ban on Serbian documents until September 1. It was expected that documents and license plates issued by Serbian authorities would cease to be valid in Kosovo territory. This has caused a sharp increase in tensions and military activity in the region.
Amid the escalating situation, NATO-controlled forces in Kosovo announced their readiness to intervene if necessary. “The government of Kosovo has committed to postpone the implementation of the decision until September 1, 2022, when barricades will be removed and free movement will be restored in northern Kosovo. We thank our international partners, especially U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier, for their commitment and contribution,” reported TASS, citing Kosovo authorities.
The decision to delay was made following a meeting between President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti with their international partners.
