Why Did the EU Conclude an Agreement with Baku When Aliyev is a War Criminal? EC Committee Chair Responds
The delegation led by David McAllister, Chair of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, is on a regional visit to Armenia. In response to the question of why the EU signed an energy agreement with Baku, given that Aliyev is a war criminal, McAllister stated: "This agreement concerns energy resources. The challenge we face in Europe is that we have to rapidly reduce gas imports from Russia, as we want to become less dependent on Russian gas and pay less. If we buy it from Russia, we are indirectly financing Russia's war against Ukraine. The issues you mentioned are outside the realm of energy cooperation," he said.
