Russian Embassy in Armenia Comments on News of Canada's Embassy Opening

The press service of the Russian Embassy in Armenia has commented on the news regarding the opening of Canada's embassy in the country.

"We have noted the reports in local media about the opening of the Canadian embassy in Armenia. It would be all well and good if it were not puzzling that this step is sincerely presented by Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a measure to 'counter Russian influence.' We are surprised by such an overtly arrogant and contemptuous attitude towards a state with which they seem to be preparing to strengthen bilateral relations. One can't help but wonder how such behavior will affect the welfare and security of the Armenian people.

As presented, this narrative is indicative of how some governing elites in certain countries consider themselves as representatives of the 'golden billion.' It is precisely this arrogant and sometimes contemptuous attitude towards other countries and peoples that underlies many tragic events occurring in the modern world," the statement read.
