Tovmasyan on Resigning from Mandate
MP of the "Honorary Duty" faction and Chair of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, Taguhi Tovmasyan, has addressed the announcement of faction leader Arthur Vanetsyan about resigning from his mandate on her Facebook page.
She wrote, "Today, Arthur Vanetsyan announced that, according to the decision of the 'Homeland' party, the 'Honorary Duty' alliance formed with the Republican Party of Armenia ceases to exist. The faction leader resigned from his MP mandate. You may recall that I raised the question of the appropriateness of resigning mandates by all opposition figures last November and have spoken on various occasions about the fact that our country is formally parliamentary but not in substance. However, even under these conditions, I believe you are convinced that in my capacity as an independent MP, my mandate has served and continues to serve exclusively the citizens of Armenia and the protection of their rights over these years.
Currently, I am in Vardenis, and I hope the clean, cool air will help me make a more effective decision. But whatever decision I come to, it will stem from the interests of the citizens of Armenia, and I will be accountable to you. I thank our faction leader Arthur Vanetsyan for the short but serious path of struggle we have shared. I am also confident that regardless of what status we hold, we will continue the struggle for the salvation of the country and the well-being of the Armenian people. Lies cannot rule forever."
We previously reported that the leader of the "Honorary Duty" faction, Arthur Vanetsyan, is resigning from his MP mandate.
