Alen Simonyan and the Head of Georgia's Foreign Ministry Meet: What Was Discussed
On April 30, Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili. This was reported by the National Assembly staff.
Alen Simonyan congratulated Ilia Darchiashvili on his appointment as Foreign Minister and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the continued development of special friendly relations with Georgia is among our priorities, as expressed in the action program of the Government of Armenia (2021-2026).
The parties discussed issues related to security and stability in the region. The National Assembly President noted that Armenia is taking steps to improve relations with all its neighbors.
He reminded of the continuous violations by official Baku of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, stressing that these actions are aimed at exerting psychological pressure on the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and disrupting the normal functioning of vital infrastructure.
There was also a reference to the issue of Armenian prisoners of war and political hostages held in Azerbaijan. Alen Simonyan reaffirmed the priority of guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and the importance of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, greatly valuing the initiation of negotiations for a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the implementation of appropriate other actions.
The Georgian Foreign Minister, expressing gratitude for the reception, noted that Georgia is always ready for close cooperation and support to promote peace. He stated that peaceful neighborhood and facing challenges together is crucial for the development of the region.
The parties emphasized the necessity to move in all directions for the development of bilateral relations.
