Conditions Under Which Russia Has the Right to Use Nuclear Weapons, According to Dmitry Medvedev
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, has outlined the scenarios under which Russia could resort to the use of nuclear weapons.
The first condition is if Russia suffers a missile strike utilizing nuclear targeting systems.
The second scenario involves the use of nuclear weapons against Russia or its allies.
The third condition is an attack on infrastructure that paralyzes the functioning of nuclear deterrent forces.
The fourth scenario occurs when an act of aggression is directed against Russia or its allies, jeopardizing the existence of the nation—even without the use of nuclear weapons, meaning it could involve conventional weaponry.
“However, it is clear that we operate from the standpoint that negotiations and diplomatic efforts, even in the most challenging situations, such as the one currently developing around Ukraine, remain the best and most correct path. It is another matter that negotiations do not always succeed, but we must pursue that course,” Medvedev told RIA Novosti.
