Vahan Kerobyan's Statement for Landowners
Significant challenges to food security are expected on one hand, while on the other, we see that food prices will increase, and agriculture will become more attractive. This was announced by the Minister of Economy of Armenia, Vahan Kerobyan, during a government session.
Kerobyan noted that what was not very advantageous one or two years ago will become more attractive this year. “I urge everyone who has land that has not been cultivated in previous years to definitely cultivate it, because there will be demand for it,” said Vahan Kerobyan.
In response to the minister, Prime Minister Pashinyan commented that in the last two years, conditional “inflationary earthquakes” have occurred due to the coronavirus and geopolitical developments stemming from the events in Ukraine. “In this regard, yes, nothing optimistic is expected ahead. But on the other hand, if we find something optimistic, yes, the prices of agricultural products will increase, and in this regard, there may be profitability in the cultivation of uncultivated lands that did not exist before,” said Pashinyan, adding that there is another problem—water supply. “In this regard, we have formed an operational headquarters to respond as much as possible; it is now evident that we will have a problem,” he noted, adding that today traditional agriculture has no future.
