Armenia to Elect President Tomorrow: 'HayJouhourd'

'HayJouhourd' newspaper writes that the next session of the National Assembly starts today, and it is quite packed. Three elections are expected and more than twenty issues will be discussed, meaning that the agenda will be full until late. Thus, the president of Armenia will be elected tomorrow, March 2, but of course in a second attempt, as the ruling party does not have the necessary 80 votes for the first round. The candidate is Vahagn Khachaturyan, a former member of the opposition Armenian National Congress and Minister of High-Tech Industry.

Today, they will also elect the chair of the Appeals Committee, with the candidate being Atom Janjughazyan, a former Minister of Finance. On March 3, they will elect a member of the Central Bank. It is also worth mentioning that there are two questions on the agenda regarding military personnel—one proposed by opposition MP Taguhi Tovmasyan and the other by ruling party member Hayk Sargsyan. The latter proposes to establish that the brothers of fallen servicemen should not serve in the army, while the opposition MP suggests simplifying the procedures for providing compensation to contract servicemen for housing expenses.
