Protest in Batumi: Several Arrested
During a protest in Batumi, several supporters and members of the "United National Movement" were arrested, according to "Novosti Gruziya." Representatives of the largest opposition party in Georgia gathered in the morning near the Hilton hotel, where a founding meeting of the ruling "Georgian Dream" women's organization was taking place.
The participants in the protest demanded to meet with the president of the "Georgian Dream," Irakli Kobakhidze. Opponents of the government called on him to answer questions related to the death of Batumi Sakrebulo (city council) member Nugzar Putkaradze. The leader of the ruling party refused to come out to the demonstrators.
When the protesters moved to the assembly hall where the party event was taking place, police began to remove them from the hotel premises. The situation escalated multiple times, resulting in clashes. As a result, at least 10 people were detained administratively. They are accused of not complying with the demands of law enforcement officials (under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
According to the "Mtavari" television channel, among those arrested are Batumi Sakrebulo members from the "United National Movement" party. Currently, the situation is calm, but police remain on-site, the publication reports.
