Opposition Candidate is Lyova Mnatsakanyan: Active Phase of Political Restructuring has Begun in Artsakh
An active phase of political restructuring has begun in Artsakh. The current president, Arayik Harutyunyan, recently expressed his willingness to step down, and the political arena has started to prepare for the electoral process planned for next year. Earlier, it was reported that former presidents and generals have begun political consultations, and they are also preparing.
According to sources from Artsakh's 'Hraparak' newspaper, the choice of the opposition bloc, the generals, and former ruling circles for the presidential candidate has currently settled on former Minister of Defense Lyova Mnatsakanyan, also known as Rizi Lyova. We were told that it has not been easy to persuade him, as everyone understands that aspiring for this position at the moment is akin to being a martyr.
More critical than the post-war social and humanitarian issues are questions regarding peacekeepers and the status of Artsakh. It is said that Arayik Harutyunyan himself realizes that a firm opposition to the course of the Armenian government is necessary, and he is not capable of doing that.
