Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Normal Life in Japan
The Japan Meteorological Agency has reported that the heavy snowfall in the country is due to a combination of winter pressure systems and cold air masses. Record snowfall was recorded in the city of Maibara in Tiga Prefecture, where 62 cm of snow fell in just one day, and in Sapporo on Hokkaido Island, where the snow depth reached 60 cm.
Overall, the total snow accumulated in Sapporo was 133 cm. Train services have been suspended. In Sekigahara, the snow depth has reached 98 cm in two days, which is also a record figure.
