The National Assembly Speaker Shouldn’t Walk on Donkeys: Khachatur Sukiasyan on the $200,000 Car

Member of the 'Civil Contract' faction Khachatur Sukiasyan responded to the criticisms regarding the $200,000 car purchased for the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.

“Let me say one thing, what does Alen Simonyan have to do with it? If the Speaker of the National Assembly mustn’t walk on a donkey in Armenia. This is about the leadership of the National Assembly, of course, he should be transported in a vehicle of certain quality,” Sukiasyan said in an interview with reporters in the National Assembly.

He noted that there are cars that may be cheaper for a few thousand dollars, but their maintenance costs can be higher. “Now this choice also relates to efficiency, specialists should say,” said the MP.

It is noteworthy that the former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, stated today: “People say that Hayk has deviated from the revolution. These are the people buying a $200,000 car at this critical time for the country and spend the entire political team for a month trying to justify that decision to show how necessary this purchase was for the state.”
