Merkel to Leave Office on December 8
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will leave her post on December 8, reports RIA Novosti, citing German government spokesman Steffen Seibert.
The current head of the German government will step down immediately after the election of Olaf Scholz, the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, as the new chancellor. “There will be no shadow chancellor. The chancellor, as she has already announced, intends to retire from political work,” said Seibert at a press conference.
