Proposed Law in Artsakh Aims to Codify Communities Occupied by Azerbaijan Due to War
The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh's permanent committee on legal and state issues has approved a draft law aimed at providing a legal clarification regarding the communities that fell outside of Artsakh's control due to the war that erupted on September 27, 2020. This was announced by the National Assembly of Artsakh.
The draft law, titled “On Amendments to the Law on the Administrative-Territorial Division of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh,” was presented by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Artsakh, Hayk Khanumyan.
The law aims to officially document the towns and villages that were occupied by Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day war. It also includes localities that have been partially occupied and those that remain uninhabited after the conflict.
The draft also provides legal clarification regarding the communities occupied by Azerbaijan as a result of the first Nagorno-Karabakh war.
