Makunts: Spreading US Influence? - 'Hraparak'
‘Hraparak’ newspaper reports: On October 22, the Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, Lilit Makunts, participated in a peculiar event. This is regarding an event organized by the ‘Meridian’ organization, aimed at expanding and enhancing the role of US influence around the world. The embassy's page states: ‘On October 22, the Armenian Embassy organized a dinner in support of the 'Meridian' main event, considered one of Washington's most prestigious occasions. The mission of 'Meridian' is to strengthen the US role on a global level through diplomacy, global leadership, and culture.’
It seems that Armenian ambassadors accredited abroad should focus on disseminating their country's influence and should do everything possible to create a favorable situation in the foreign policy arena for Armenia, as well as to promote the development of bilateral relations. However, the Armenian ambassador participates in the spread of another state’s influence in the world. Furthermore, our ambassadors abroad have a minimal role—hardly ever meeting with officials from those countries, not initiating any actions, and not resolving issues. There is an impression that they do not realize what their primary function is and why they have been appointed to that position.
