Inmate Dies at Armavir Penitentiary
An inmate held at the Armavir penitentiary in Armenia, a French national born in 1988, suddenly worsened in health at around 11:10 AM on October 21. Following this, the facility's doctor was called to attend to him; however, a biological death was recorded just minutes later at 11:35 AM. This information has been reported by the Armenian Penal Enforcement System.
The inmate, identified as A. S., had been detained since September 4, 2021, on charges related to Article 267.1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, part 4, point 1, and Article 266, part 3, point 2, for committing a criminal act.
In order to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death, materials are being prepared by the Ararat Investigative Division of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, and forensic medical examinations have been ordered. Furthermore, the head of the Armenian Penal Enforcement Service has launched an inquiry to investigate potential disciplinary violations in the actions of the penitentiary staff in connection to the incident.
