Zohrapyan: Charchyan Cannot Be Deprived of Freedom Without Parliamentary Permission
Former MP Naira Zohrapyan has written on her Facebook page: “Just now, the judge of the RA Court of Appeal, R. Mkhitaryan, made a decision regarding the detention of Armen Charchyan. This decision is illegal, as Dr. Charchyan, having been free for about a month, has committed no unlawful acts.
Armen Charchyan is an MP, and according to Article 96 of the RA Constitution, as a person enjoying immunity, he cannot be deprived of his freedom without the permission of the National Assembly.
The penal institution is only authorized to admit a person based on proper legal grounds. Meanwhile, in this case, the decision of the RA Court of Appeal is evidently illegal. Therefore, the penal institution will be committing a clear crime by admitting Dr. Charchyan.”
