Why Babken Tunya Appeared on the Sidelines: 'Zhoghovurd'
According to the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, the question of why ruling party faction member Babken Tunya has ended up on the sidelines is currently under discussion within the government. The reason is that Tunya was supposed to head the Economic Affairs Permanent Commission in the National Assembly, but the opposition has taken control of it.
Our sources indicate that there was an internal arrangement stating that if Tunya’s commission were taken, he would lead the National Assembly’s Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Permanent Commission. However, on August 6, the ruling My Step Alliance faction held an unexpected meeting and decided to elect a new commission head, where Babken Tunya was also nominated, but Sisak Gabrielyan was chosen instead.
Our sources within the faction suggest that the shadow organizer of this whole affair has been faction member Maria Karapetyan, who has been urging former representatives from her NGO sector to vote for Sisak Gabrielyan, resulting in Tunya being sidelined. Now, discussions are ongoing within the faction about the notion that Tunya does not deserve to remain in the position of a regular deputy, and they are searching for ways to communicate this matter to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and find a solution.
