Parliament Fails to Elect Speaker Due to Typographical Error on Ballot
The newly elected members of the National Assembly were recently voting for the Assembly Speaker. After the allocated 45 minutes, the head of the counting commission, Narek Babayan, announced that the voting had been interrupted.
“There was a typo in the surname of one of the opposition candidates. Therefore, a new vote will take place,” Babayan stated.
It should be noted that Nazeli Baghdasaryan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, also proposed to hold an additional session of the Assembly, meaning it would take place from 18:30 to 20:00.
The Members of Parliament went on a break again until the voting concludes.
For the position of the Assembly Speaker, the Civil Contract has proposed Alen Simonian, the Armenia Alliance has suggested Mikitar Zakaryan, and the “I Have Honor” alliance has put forward Arthur Sargsyan's candidacy. Mikitar Zakaryan and Arthur Sargsyan are currently in custody.
