Alen Simonian Elected as Speaker of Parliament, Opposition Abstains from Voting
Alen Simonian has been elected as the Speaker of the Parliament. He received support only from the members of the "Civil Contract" faction, totaling 71 votes. The opposition did not participate in the voting or in the parliamentary session during which the voting results were announced.
It is noteworthy that the "Armenia" faction had nominated former Meghri Mayor Mkhitar Zakaryan for the speaker's position, who is currently in custody. Meanwhile, the "I Have Honor" faction nominated Arthur Sargsyan, a member of the "Armenia" alliance and the mayor of Sisian, who is also detained.
Votes in favor of Alen Simonian were cast exclusively by members of the "Civil Contract" faction.
