Gunshots Heard During Funeral of Assassinated Haitian President
A farewell ceremony has taken place in Haiti for the assassinated president Jovenel Moïse. The event was held in Cap-Haïtien in a shortened format due to unrest, according to the Nuvellist newspaper.
Protesters, who called for an objective investigation into the murder of the head of state, attacked one of the mourning processions and threw stones at the official vehicles. Police and security personnel were forced to fire into the air to calm the demonstrators. The protesters also erected burning tire barricades, making it difficult for the new prime minister, Ariel Henry, to reach the funeral site.
Reports indicate that the protesters overturned at least two vehicles.
