Poroshenko Promises to Return Crimea to Ukraine in a Year

The former President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has pledged to reclaim Crimea from Russia within a year during his address to Crimean Tatars and all Ukrainian Muslims on the occasion of Kurban Bayram. This was reported by РИА Новости.

According to the former president, Crimea will celebrate this holiday as part of Ukraine next year. "Soon, in Ukrainian Crimea, the indigenous Tatar people will freely celebrate Kurban Bayram. Next year, in Bakhchisarai. Crimea is Ukraine," Poroshenko concluded.

In early July, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on "Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine," which recognizes the peoples formed on the territory of Crimea, including Tatars, Karaites, and Krymchaks, as indigenous. In contrast, Russians, Belarusians, Hungarians, Greeks, Bulgarians, and other peoples residing in Ukraine are not considered indigenous. The law has not yet come into effect as it awaits the signature of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
