What Instruction Did Heydar Aliyev Give to His Country's Historians in 1999: Artjom Tonoyan
Iranologist Artjom Tonoyan wrote on his Facebook page: “On February 9, 1999, Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev gave the following long-term strategic planning instruction to his country's historians: ‘From now on, works must be created that will systematically and continuously prove that the territories currently located in Armenia belong to Azerbaijan. We must do this. We must open a path for our future generations. We cannot reconcile ourselves to the existing reality. History is a great thing. The course of events in this century could change in the future. We simply need to reflect this in books. History will show when and to what extent all this can be realized.’”
