City Council Reluctant to Dismiss Mayor Marutyan as No Suitable Replacement Exists

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "Robert Kocharyan has become a lifeline for Haik Marutyan. It is no secret that Pashinyan and his team want to get rid of the 'capable' mayor, as even Pashinyan's advisor and now head of the staff Arayik Harutyunyan stated.

However, the ruling team has come to understand that by calling new elections, they could lose Yerevan. Although the Civil Contract party won in Yerevan, the margin of difference between their votes and those of 'Armenia' is not significant. As much as Khachatur Sukiasyan wishes to occupy that position as soon as possible, the new elections pose a risk; Kocharyan's supporters could mobilize their forces and win.

Moreover, they stated that Pashinyan is currently trying to smooth relations with Marutyan. The popular saying goes, 'If you cannot cut off the hand, kiss it and place it on your forehead.'"
