Aliyev Fails to Achieve International Consensus on the 'Zangezur Corridor' Issue, Arman Babajanyan
Arman Babajanyan, a member of the National Assembly, made a notable statement regarding the recent declarations by the President of Azerbaijan. He emphasized that these statements signify that Aliyev is unable to achieve international consensus on the 'Zangezur Corridor' issue.
Babajanyan noted that Aliyev is unsuccessful in bringing the co-chairing countries of the Minsk Group to discuss the agenda related to the 'Zangezur Corridor', nor has he managed to secure agreement from Armenia to impose this agenda.
He pointed out that Armenia refuses to engage in any discussions about a 'corridor'. This stance was established during Robert Kocharyan's administration, particularly during discussions in Key West, where differing solutions were considered, and Kocharyan himself acknowledged the discussions.
Currently, Aliyev refers to these historical negotiation processes in response to statements about the status issue from both Armenian and co-chair countries, especially France and the USA.
Babajanyan stressed that it is imperative for Armenia to do everything possible to prevent Aliyev from forming a 'coalition' against Armenia on this issue in the future. He viewed it as unrealistic to think Armenia could form a 'coalition' against the Baku-Ankara tandem, even considering some possible cooperation with Russia. Instead, Yerevan must diversify its accumulation of interests around Syunik, thus expanding the directions of its partnerships and alliances in rejecting the 'corridor' agenda.
To achieve this diversification of interests, Babajanyan argued that Armenia needs to focus on consolidating Armenian and pan-Armenian resources, engaging all pro-Armenian lobbying groups worldwide, and establishing a robust pan-Armenian agenda concerning Syunik. Following this, Armenia could potentially adapt to geopolitical branches and transformations.
