Azerbaijan's Presidential Assistant: 'Armenia and Azerbaijan Have Opportunities for Stability and Mutual Prosperity'

Today, Armenia and Azerbaijan have opportunities for stability and, as a result, mutual prosperity. This was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, as reported by minval.az.

He emphasized the importance of creating the so-called "Zangezur Corridor," explaining that its opening would end the isolation of Nakhchivan, allowing Yerevan to connect with Moscow and other capitals via land routes through Azerbaijani territory.

According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan hopes that as part of this significant transformation, the OSCE Minsk Group will not remain in the past but rather can become part of the future; its experience could play an important role in strengthening trust between Yerevan and Baku.

“Today, we have the opportunity for stability and, as a result, mutual prosperity. We have the chance to get to know each other, to grow and prosper together more safely. Ultimately, all these measures to strengthen trust can lead to a final peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” said the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, adding that “attempts at revanchism instead of peace and cooperation can lead to new disasters and tragedies.”

He reminded that in June, Yerevan and Baku effectively took the first mutual step towards de-escalation: Azerbaijan handed over 15 prisoners of war to Armenia, and Armenia provided the maps of the minefields in the Akdam region.

“We must not stop at this diplomatic progress and must convert confrontation into cooperation, as there is still much work ahead,” emphasized Hajiyev, noting that Yerevan has only handed over the maps of one region's minefields to Baku.
