Incident in Ejmiadzin: EKM Members Threaten Journalist with Aggression

Today, an extraordinary incident occurred in Ejmiadzin: Yerkir.am journalist Lia Sargsyan visited the local office of the "Union of Reservists" social organization after noticing that posters bearing the symbols of the "Civil Contract" party and Prime Minister Pashinyan's electoral slogans were plastered on the walls. She sought clarification on why this apolitical and patriotic structure was being used for the ruling party's electoral campaign, questioning why the walls of EKM's office were covered in posters of government slogans.

As she posed her question, several men present in the office exhibited aggressive behavior typical of those caught in wrongdoing, attacking Lia Sargsyan by pulling her, pushing her, hitting her phone, and hurling insults, calling her a "traitor," "foreign intruder," "extortionist," and more. Despite her attempts to civilly repeat her inquiries and seek explanations, the EKM members, representing themselves as "national rescue fighters," continued to forcefully shout street language phrases like "get lost, traitor" and medieval threats, driving the journalist out.

According to the journalist, the attack was perpetrated by a certain Armen Shahbazyan, who introduced himself as the president of the Ejmiadzin EKM office, along with an individual named Arthur, who claimed to be responsible there. The journalist managed to record portions of the aforementioned EKM members' behavior, which we present below.

The editorial board of Yerkir.am condemns such perverse behavior from the president and representatives of the Union of Reservists' Ejmiadzin office and reports that journalist Lia Sargsyan has filed a complaint with the police, demanding that those who obstructed her professional work and insulted, shoved, and defamed her be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
