Why No International Human Rights Organization Visits Artsakh: Ombudsman Condemns Silence
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, believes that the silence of international organizations during the war unleashed by Azerbaijan has contributed to the extent of human rights violations.
The Ombudsman expressed this view during a session in the National Assembly, responding to a question from LHK member Karen Simonian. "Unfortunately, the silence of international organizations during the war also led to such a scale of human rights violations. Azerbaijan has always pursued a policy of isolating Artsakh. I openly tell international organizations that it was their silence that contributed to this, as they undermined the authority of human rights, including causing problems in my work. So what now, it turns out that the citizen understood clearly that the war and armed assaults did not stop because international human rights organizations intervened, but because the issue was being solved through specific political paths," said Tatoyan, noting that human rights organizations had retreated, and the whole issue was in the political domain.
“For example, the question is: why has no human rights organization visited Artsakh?” he emphasized. Tatoyan stressed that the behavior of international organizations has damaged the human rights system. "Being an international organization, you are obliged to provide full support for the protection of our citizen's rights, so that it does not seem that human rights and democracy in our country contradict security. In reality, human rights, democracy, and security complement each other. The higher the level of security, the higher the level of human rights, and vice versa," Tatoyan stated.
