Turks Hold Protest in Istanbul Against Biden's Recognition of Armenian Genocide
A small group of protesters gathered in Istanbul near the U.S. consulate to express their opposition to President Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide that occurred in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.
Several dozen demonstrators held banners and shouted slogans such as, "The genocide is a lie; it’s an American agenda." They also called for the prohibition of American military personnel from entering the Incirlik airbase in southern Turkey, yelling, "American soldiers, get out of Turkey!"
Following Biden's announcement, U.S. consulates and embassy services are closed for regular visits until Wednesday.
