Turkish Politicians Propose Responding to the U.S. with Recognition of Crimea
Representatives of the Turkish "Vatan" (Homeland) Party held a rally in front of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. The goal of the rally was to express disagreement with President Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Protesters demanded the closure of U.S. military bases in Turkey.
A rally has taken place in front of the U.S. Embassy in Turkey, during which the "Vatan" Party proposed closing American military bases in Turkey and recognizing Crimea as Russian in response to President Joe Biden's acknowledgment of the genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“We appeal to the government. Biden's actions cannot be responded to with words. Measures must be taken. The 'Incirlik' and 'Kurecik' military bases should be put under full control of the Turkish Armed Forces immediately, and American troops should be sent back to their country within 15 days. Diplomatic contacts should start immediately for the recognition of Crimea and Abkhazia, as well as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (self-proclaimed), with Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan,” stated the party's Secretary-General Ozgur Bursalan during the protest.
The "Vatan" Party also held a protest against Biden's statement in front of the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul and plans to organize similar demonstrations in various cities across Turkey during the week. This information was provided to RIA Novosti by the party's press service.
