Ilham Aliyev Claims Some Countries Have Conspired to Overthrow Him
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has stated that a plan has been developed in certain foreign capitals to overthrow him. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.
“There have been attempts to stage a coup against me. In 2003, the 'People's Front-Musavat' party (opposition) wanted to organize a military coup during the 'Azadlyg' protests. However, it did not materialize, and the people did not support it. In 2005, they aimed to create an 'orange revolution' in Azerbaijan. They already had orange armbands and had brought orange tents. What was the goal? The goal was to bring traitors to power, cede Nagorno-Karabakh to the Armenians, and take over Azerbaijan,” said Aliyev during the opening of a military trophy exhibition in Baku on Monday, where ammunition seized by the Armenian side during the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh was displayed.
According to him, “in certain foreign capitals, it has been decided to overthrow Ilham Aliyev.” “At that time, there was a trend of 'orange revolutions.' Revolutions were happening here and there. Now everyone can see what has happened to these revolutions. These countries are in dire straits, unable to escape the crisis, which has lasted for 15-17 years. It is unlikely that these countries will emerge from the crisis,” Aliyev added.
